The idea of getting married in the mind of the daughter is the same in both movies; however, in the earlier movie the daughter wants her father to be able to reconcile with her fiancé whereas in the newer remake of the movie, the father is convinced that he will not be able to do so and thus formulates plans in order to wreck the wedding somehow.
