The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken. Looking back at the title of the poem, the poet talks about the wrong choice made; meaning that the one left by the speaker is the right one to have been chosen. It is similar to what happens to most of us. An example is of the case of my niece who was set to choose between two men who were prospective husbands, but was not sure which among the two was better. According to the fork on the road, however, there has not been such thing as the right choice, it is all about the decision made and the other that was left. It was not easy for this decision to be made; one of the men presented himself as rich and the other poor, though concealing their true colors. To deal with this kind of a dilemma, she opted for the one who presented himself as rich and disregarded the poor one.

To date, she wishes she wouldnt have been blinded by the riches as this guy turned out to be very irresponsible and quite poor as compared to the image he presented in the beginning. This other poor guy turned out richer and very responsible in the real sense, which are the qualities my niece found hard to discover.Presenting himself as poor was meant to make sure my niece loved him for who he is rather than for his money. All he was for was true love that would not be easy to achieve if he had presented himself as rich. The other ‘rich man was on the other hand was really desperate for her love and therefore had to really try very hard to compete favorably with the other suitor so that he could be considered and ended up winning. These are some of the irresponsible choices we are forced to make that end up making our lives a living nightmare. My niece has never stopped regretting having made such a decision that is to be a lifetime, and wishing she chose the other guy that presented as poor. The sad thing about this choice is that one never knows the its fate and that there is no looking back; as she has never had the opportunity to make an improvement on the same, being that she is now a dedicated married woman with children. All she can do now is simply make wishes that are now too far from being achieved, and this is where the poem, ‘The Road Not Taken, makes. The Road Not Taken.
