The value of clean water in the environment ensures that people, animals and plants have healthy living (Kneese, 2013). Societies that understand the environmental benefits brought about by clean water ensure water catchment areas are well protected from agents of water pollution. Studies indicate that over one billion people across the globe do not have access to clean drinking and domestic water.While water is supposed to be a free natural resource, the high-level of pollution makes the availability of clean water very scarce. In many countries, clean water is only available at a fee. People living in cities have to use recycled water that is subject to numerous treatments to ensure it is free of pollution. The low value attached to the benefits that comes with water as a natural resource has led to increased misuse of sources of water leading to pollution. While pollution may not be the only reason for decreasing value attached to protection of water, economic activities such as farming, urbanization and settlements have contributed to destruction of water springs and catchment areas. Water conservation authorities have been formed in various countries to ensure that people understand the benefits of water to the environment thus protect water source areas.Notably, air and water present huge environmental benefits to inhabitants. The livability of any place is subject to availability of clean air and water. While many places have industries and other air and water pollutants, the value attached to clean air and water mandates the responsible authorities to ensure that industries do not interfere with the pure air and water supply. Developed nations have used special techniques to realize the benefits of air and water in their environments.
