Compared to other countries, the US has failed to deal with vital issues in the elimination of poverty due to the political culture. The culture has allowed for prejudice of the poor and less fortunate with the programs developed benefiting the middle class and not the poor. The Republican approach, in dealing with poverty, has been conservative because the party is conservative ideologies leading to the restricted financial support of social welfare programs while encouraging growth of inequality. Democrats are liberal and tend to fight inequality by using taxes and other support programs such as the new Medicare programs developed by the current administration. Cash transfers programs offer short term support to families, unemployed and the less fortunate in the society. Social insurance, on the other hand, is a long term program that focuses on improving various aspects of the society Suburbs developed due to increased personal mobility allowing for access of the central business district easier. The government policies helped it the developments of the suburbs by offering federal lending housing construction. The financial and settling of the wealthy on the edges of the suburbs encouraged their growth. Ghettos developed as an ethnic isolations leading concentration of one ethnic community in an area. The poor and the minority could not access the federal lending programs for housing, therefore, could not afford living in the Suburbs. Additionally the location of the suburbs requires extra costs in accessing the central business district which the poor could not afford. The public policy failure to address the minority and the poor facilitate the development of Ghettos as a form of resistance to discrimination. The inner city jobs did not solve the poverty issues in the city because of the mismatch and inability to solve the problem of unemployment. Partial mismatch existed in the inner city making the opportunities untenable The Urban renewal program targeted the buildings of the cities by redesigning the city and was funded by the federal government. The consequence of the program was the destruction of more building that erection of new ones Growth in the different regions has differed based on the differences in approach and policies employed by the different states.
