Along with the industry efforts to minimize the food-borne health-risks, domestic consumers play a crucial role in reducing food-borne diseases. Yet ‘gender dimension’ or ‘gender role’ in consumers’ awareness and food-safe behavior have long been in the focus of the studies on food safety and public health (Ozcelik, 2007). Among other parties, women can be considered as the most important role-players in ensuring food safety. (FAO, 2012) In modern food industry, before being served at the consumers’ table, the raw-food materials undergo various safety measures and procedures in order to ensure that “the food…is fit for consumption, that the risks of contamination are minimized, so that the population as a whole is healthier from the benefits of safe quality food” (EUFIC, 2006). Indeed the shared responsibility of all the people, involved with the food industry is the only means to promote food safety.
