Service, Faith and Spirituality in Nursing

Service, Faith and Spirituality in Nursing. The nursing profession is one of the most important professions in the contemporary world as it serves humanity. Nurses are employed in various health care settings, and they perform various roles that enable them to touch the lives of many. Apart from working in health care facilities, nurses may also be community health nurses, going around communities to provide nursing services. Nursing is a profession; hence, nurses need adequate training. The role of a nurse is to undertake his/her activities in a health facility while ensuring that the patient is given the first priority (Anne, 2008).
Nursing is governed by nursing ethics. Each state has its own ethics, but more or less they are the same since nursing is a universal profession.

Three key principles play a role in the education of individuals who want to venture into the nursing profession. These principles are service, faith, and spirituality, and if they are imparted onto nursing trainees successively, they will ensure that the trainees become proficient workers. By training student nurses the spirit of service, they will be able to render their services to people effectively, tirelessly and proficiently. Patients are normally satisfied with noteworthy services; hence, training nursing students on service becomes a bonus.
Faith ensures that nursing students are able to trust their jobs, their colleagues and themselves. Lack of faith, especially in work colleagues, may lead to poor work relations. As a result of this, nurses are always expected to cultivate faith in their nursing practice.  Spirituality also plays a role in nursing students since it ensures that they acquire spiritual virtues that would enable them to become proficient professionals. Such virtues emanating from spirituality include kindness, generosity, courtesy, humility and many more. A nurse with these virtues is able to maintain good working relations with colleagues and interventions with the customer (Mashaba, 2009). Service, Faith and Spirituality in Nursing.
