Photovoltaic cells have low maintenance costs but require regular check to ensure that the panels remain clean and proper wiring is maintained. Secondly, in case of renovations to the building, the costs to be incurred in installation will be lower since they can be incorporated therein. The photovoltaic cells produce low noise, reduce the carbon footprint and can also be used as a supplement to wind energy.These are also most common source of alternative energy used in the developed and developing countries. For high generation of electricity for commercial purposes, bigger wind turbines are needed. The disadvantage is that nowadays the wind turbines that are available are smaller, which are only suitable for generating electricity that can be used for domestic purposes by the households, depending on their size, even though there is a likelihood of selling the excess to the national electricity grid.Wind turbines are advantageous because they are friendly to the environment and once installation has been done, they provide free electricity. In addition, it is cheap to produce with a better established technology and takes a short time to recoup the investment cost. Thirdly, in the event of good wind, excess electricity is generated which can be sold to electricity companies. Moreover, wind turbines are quitter, efficient and light-weight designed to enable them to be located on the roofs of buildings (Burton, 2011).This type of energy is cheaper than oil or coal, making it more preferred in developed and developing countries. In addition, wood burning is environmentally friendly since the amount of greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) emitted is absorbed by the trees. Wood discharges less sulphur compared to oil and thus resulting to a less acid environment. Biomass is capable of being converted into other forms of energy not limited to heat, power and combined heat and power energy (Klass, 2008).Biomass energy is the most used of the renewable sources of energy with statistics pointing out that about 4% of total electricity is from biomass. It can be able to be used in solid, gas and liquid form for purposes of heating and creating electricity(Klass, 2008).Natural rainwater can be harvested and kept to serve numerous purposes not limited to drinking, farming and irrigation.
