Peter Elbows Freewriting. Donald Murray’s Revising your own work is introduced from a general perspective of writing. Murray takes a point of indifference, he does not begin with telling of his own understanding or what he thinks. He uses an advisory tone to compare writing for students and that of professionals. This is quite different from Peter Elbow’s Freewriting where the tone of the introduction is quite definitive and purely based on Peter’s writing experience. He kicks off straightaway by defining what he thinks one should do to be an effective writer. Murray’s introduction basically a foundation for the tips presented thereafter while from the Freewriting piece, one can already gain all the insight in from the introduction.

Also, Murray splits the introduction such that it is two somewhat paragraphs that carry key points. The kind of introduction stimulates curiosity unlike that of Freewriting where the introduction suffices reading the entire essay.
The various aspects of a writer’s concern are addressed in paragraph thirteen because Murray takes time to introduce the essay and the prerequisites of proficient writing. The earlier parts of the essay are used to create the interest and the understanding of the different forms of writing. The author thus takes time to explain other aspects to a point where he thinks the audience is ready to have the key points. In literature works, use of italicized works substitutes for underlines. The words in italics are meant and appear very different from others and this is intended by the author. The different appearance of the italicized words makes them quite visible even at a glance or for someone just perusing through the essay. This way a person can quickly read through the explanation and still take away the key areas to consider in writing. Italicized words could be the key points if a reader was making short notes.
The sixth paragraph contains analogies that the author uses to put across the writer’s attitude while rereading literature and making it the best. Peter Elbows Freewriting.
