With Coyle et al. (2012) arguing on the capability of sourcing strategically provided by a firm managing its supply chain, Peerless would lose out on this capability. As a result, the firm would be supplied with substandard or/and high cost raw materials making their manufacturing expensive.Peerless Products Inc. suffers from increased lead time as a result of no end-to-end supply chain capability. Therefore, it would be crucial that it develops its end-to-end supply chain capability to enable it tackle the identified adverse impacts. Borrowing from the argument by Packowski (2014), the firm should select the scope of its supply chain first. In this case, the firm should consider a supply chain that fits within a manufacturing firm. This should provide for movement of goods from suppliers to end consumer. It would then divide this into levels so as to manage the supply chain better. This could be based on each stage of the supply chain.Secondly, it would be crucial that the firm identifies the demand and supply factors as relates to its manufacturing operations. This includes cycle time and volume moved among many others. Ideally, this should result in varied results or options as to how to implement the supply chain (Packwoski, 2014). At this stage, there could be as many options as possible.It would then be crucial that the firm consolidates its findings to determine the supply chain set-up that is most promising. Packowski (2014) recommends that during this phase, the firm should consider how replenishment and production modes interact and the interdependencies with supply chain. This stage involves narrowing down onto a specific model of supply chain from the various options. The best option would be chosen for implementation.Thereafter, a simulation analysis of the selected modes would be undertaken. This stage provides quantitative results which would enable the firm to make fact-based comparisons of the various supply chain modes. With these insights, Peerless would be ready to solve the challenge it faces. It would implement the rightful supply chain setup and therefore enable it to improve on its lead time and meet its customers’ demands. Thus, Peerless would realize the full potential of its supply chain.
