This has therefore necessitated the need for investment in better air logistics.For air cargo logistics to be effective, these players require the cooperation and services of each other. Each involved party has a precise role to play and when each party satisfactorily plays its part, the resultant air cargo logistics operations will be effective. Out of the several players, the cargo terminals remain central to the air cargo logistics chain (Logistics Management Staff, 2014). This is because all the other players operate around the services at the air cargo terminal both in inbound and outbound cargo.The demand for both inbound and outbound air cargo is limited and controlled by cost (Zubkov, 2012). This implies that inventory or cargo which is shipped by air has slightly high value per unit. Such cargo may include documents, garments, electronics and sea foods. Items that are intended to meet just in time production models are also transported by air.In most developed countries, the volume or traffic of the outbound goods are normally higher than the inbound goods. This is because the developed countries export finished products to other countries. On the other hand, developing countries appear to have higher inbound air cargo traffic as compared to the outbound goods. Most of the countries have for a long time relied on sea transport to be able to transport goods internationally (Boeing, 2011). This has however changed as high value goods and the goods with a defined delivery time continue to be transported via air (IATA, 2014).Since most of the cargo that is transported by air may not require large storage space, there is normally the need to take into account the time factor to ensure that the goods get into the required destination at the definite time that has been indicated (Adina, 2014). This requires that the air cargo logistic chain to limits any time consuming channel or aspect of its operation that may delay the delivery of the goods. According to Sales (2013) the throughput efficiency of the air cargo logistic is measured in terms of the tonnage that is handled per square area. The central factor that is used in the comparison of the tonnage handle and the total volume of goods handed in a year is the comparison of the freight volume and the efficiency of the terminals.For effective
