This piece is one example of a hard bop due to the intensive drums of Art Blakey as well as the blues created by the other instruments. The music started with a slow playing of introduction of Bobby Timmons’ piano followed by Morgan’s trumpet and Golson’s saxophone. The flow of the music was from single and slow instrument to playing of all the instruments composed by drums, piano, bass, trumpet and saxophone.The piano served as the introduction to the music and remained as background during which each solo was performed. This instrument was also featured in solo right after Benny Golson’s saxophone routine.Art Blakey in drums remained to be a background in this music. Though he was using a drum brush, the intensity of the instrument can still be felt along the music to create the blues in this jazz masterpiece.This music piece was written by Benny Golsen to dedicate to one of the most famous hard bop trumpet experts named Clifford Brown who died in a car crash. The style of the music is a tender ballad written in a standard structure with goes from a head-in to a solo and a head out.The trumpet, saxophone, piano and bass started the head in. After which, solo instruments were highlighted such as piano and trumpet. Although Art Blakey was present to hande the drums, it was as if the instrument was not played since he was using a stick with mallet and was just carefully circling the drum. The music ended with all the instruments being played and created a message that Clifford Brown also known as Brownie will never be forgotten.A night in Tunisia is classified as a bebop as well as an “Afro Cuban” jazz. It is because this type of jazz was considered one of the earliest forms characterized with clave-based rhythms as well as harmonies of jazz with improvisation.This was a fun combination of simultaneous playing of instruments but also gives way to solos to emphasize the said instrument. The piece started maracas played by Benny Golson who also played the sax followed by the solo of Art Blakey in drums where maracas of Golson, claves of Morgan as well as a form of super guiro played by Timmons were in the background.
