It is imperative that we accept that mode of leadership in the companies has undergone radical changes and new strategic approaches need to be adopted by managers. In reference to BP, all the decisions have always been entrusted with the top cream within the highly bureaucratic chain of command. The emergence of globalization has created a disturbance in the socio-political order which need to be captured by new leadership crop through adjustment of the traditional conservatism oriented governance formulae. BP is an international corporation with employees spread across the entire world and this means that they have big stake in ensuring the success of this firm. In that respect, the Chief Executive Officer and his top cream lieutenants need to change from autocratic decision making to a participatory discussion of the problems challenging the firm by including the contribution of the staff members.Had the firm adopted the tradition of inclusiveness and free communication and the subordinate staff, what occurred could have been diffused within a short time. But, due to failure on the part of past and present leadership, this was not achieved and the consequences are far reaching. The backbone of any management structure is the flow of information through an efficient communication system and strategy. In the event that the communication system fails, the implementation of various plans will be jeopardized and the firm will definitely fall short of realizing its success dreams. In essence the issue of miscommunication is critical and should be given a second thought by this company’s management because it has a lot to do with the past oil spill catastrophe. BP needs to take this as a very risky affair in regard to the reputation and public image of the company. However, this tainted publicity of BP goes down with the management team but the effect is likely to diffuse to the lowest ranked employee through conspicuous reduction in market share across the globe. Image is the selling point for a company and any slight loss of confidence in the management of a given organization by the shareholders and customers can drain the company completely in terms of performance.
