A blockade on the strait it would be partial due to the fact that it would inviteintervention from the international powerhouses like, UK, USA, Germany and other top power houses, by using their technological power and military strength can easily resolve the situation within a shorter span of time as it was witnessed during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War.Although all the above mentioned points are true, it is also significant to consider the fact that as Iran has large number of sea mines under their control so one cannot overlook their power of enforcing provisional closure of the strait.Generally, if one critically scrutinize the passage accessible for the ships through strait, it is very obvious that as the passage is very narrow, therefor any ship remainspresent in those strait will cause a major problem.Subsequently Iran’s planned outstrategies to block the strait is not only restrictedthe use of sea mines and bombing of oil tankers, at the same time, their ‘hit and run attacks’ on oil containersoften gives them a significant advantage to create a partial blockade on the channel. These sudden attacks can partially or completely destroy oil ships and create a scarefor the rest who are trying to venture into the channels without armed patrols and escorts. It is very clear from the above analysis that military patrols and escorts are therefore essential for all the sea mines to protect the vessels from ‘hit and run attacks’ from Iranian navy.An overall study clearly pointed out the fact that, the Iranian navy has the capability to lay sea mines from three different frigates. It also has two corvettes, and ten missile boats, with three ships in the Persian Gulf that have reliable RH-53D Sea Stallion mine-laying helicopters skilled enough of placing mines at a quicker and enthusiastic pace.33 Additionally, the two hundred smaller patrol and coastal fighterbelongingsavailable with the Iranian Navy are also suitable for mine establishment in the coastal areas. The most significant point associated with this kind of mine establishment in the coastal areas is:Iran also owns three modern-type-877 kilo-class diesel-electric submarines from Russia. These advances and sophisticated sea platforms are composed of all various modern technologies, with an advanced 533-milimeter torpedo tubes which makes them more consistent and swift in maritime operations.
