Impact of Media Violence on Children INTRODUCTION: Background: Media, including electronic, print, radio and internet, have now become an
inevitable part of our lives and today have been used as an effective tool in dissemination
of information and knowledge, changing behaviors, attitudes, perceptions and lifestyles. Despite all the positivity and potential advantages of media, it must be highlighted that
media is also involved in an irresponsible behavior by portraying the acts that lead to
violent actions in our real lives. Unequivocally, the most vulnerable group, which is
directly affected by this portrayal of violence and aggression, is Children. These children,
mostly immature and sensitive, spend most of their time on watching war cartoons,
violent games, fictitious wrestling shows, action movies (depending on their tastes and
interests) and dramas. They easily fall prey to power of media (in changing behaviors and
attitudes) and try to “rehearse or imitate” in their real lives what they learn from these so-
called pieces of entertainment and adventure.
The increased depiction of violence in media jeopardizes children’s development and is destructive for their well-being.
