Of his experimental data was fabricated, the methods used by him led him towards early success to the point that he was able to secure a position with the Medici court in Italy. His discovery of the moons of Jupiter and other celestial objects also changed the worldview which had stood for centuries before Galileo Galilei in Europe (Weart and Phillips, 1985).This changed worldview allowed scientists such as Descartes to take God out of the equation when explaining the physical world. Descartes believed that the motion of the planet was not different from the motion of earthly object but in essence, they followed the same principles (Agassi, 1968). This was quite a departure from Aristotle’s physics where the motion of the planets and heavenly bodies was thought to be perfect while the motion of the earthly objects was considered to be imperfect (Weart and Phillips, 1985). However, there were still fundamental discoveries which needed to be made with regard to the science of physics and those came about with Newton.Like Descartes, Newton was looking for mathematical proofs which could be used to describe the movement of objects. He discovered the famous three laws which govern motion and the law of gravity (Weart and Phillips, 1985). In terms of correcting the ideas of the time, Newton showed that not only is motion explained by mathematics, the continued motion of any object can be discovered if their existing state is known. At the same time, instead of taking God out of science, Newton actually placed God in physics by explaining any discrepancy between his theories and the observed phenomenon of celestial movement as being caused by God (Agassi, 1968).In the period following the last great philosopher physicists, the science of physics entered the industrial age in which steam power, fluid dynamics and even mechanics themselves became more important for physicist than gravity or the movement of celestial bodies. Other fields of physics such as optics, the study of magnets, electricity and thermodynamics started gaining importance since their industrial applications were being discovered with time (Agassi, 1968).Of course the theories presented by Newton could not be readily applied to these fields therefore scientists such as Dalton and Faraday had to give their own theories concerning atoms and electricity.
