Heroin is a psychoactive drug belonging to the class opioids. It is synthetically derived from morphine, which is extracted from the seeds of the opium poppy plants. Opioid drugs have a wide range of uses the most important one being their use as analgesic compounds, however they also have several adverse effects including physical dependence to the drug.
The study examined effects of the patient to nurse ratios and nurses’ education levels on the results which included death within 30 days, death resulting from surgery complication, and the length of hospital stay. The authors integrated cross-sectional data from a research survey conducted on nurses.
In Switzerland, euthanasia is approved with or without a physician’s involvement. Australia briefly approved euthanasia in 1995 but this was overturned by parliament in 1997 (Chapple et al, 2006). It must be noted that in all these places, any form of euthanasia must be reported to the authorities (Chaloner and Sanders, 2007).
