I'm going to argue that it is correct to say that men and women are the same and equal. Both share the same capabilities and opportunities in the community. Should body differences between men and women distinguish what they can or cannot do? Should the differences in physicality between men and women distinguish the roles they take in society? Should men and women have similar modes of education? Gender equality has been a major issue in different communities and regions. Women have been perceived to be physically weaker than the males causing discrimination in roles and positions they take in society. Men and women are essentially the same. (The Republic Book V).
According to Plato's argument, Women possess the same quality of soul as a man if stripped of the differences in their body structures. Well, it's true that women can take roles of men and can be guardians the same way the men are perceived to be. Women have the ability to think and act like men according to Plato. This brings us to the question if both men and women should have the same modes of education. I think education is the brain ability that both men and women possess to think. In modern education, there is coeducation system where both men and women are educated in the same school and class. The coeducation ideology of education was put in place to enable equal chances of competition between men and women.
In Plato's argument, he questions whether a man would take the role of being guardians of the herd with the woman and children are held in a common position (The Republic Book V). Well, both men and women can take a role of a guardian as in the case of single women in modern society. Also, children who are left as orphans have been able to be guardians of each other with the firstborn taking care of the smaller siblings. This depicts that both man and woman can share responsibilities in the raising of the children regarding financial and emotional support
When it comes to assuming a leadership position, there is no specific position for a man or woman as they hold capabilities of taking the same roles according to Plato. Women have taken leadership positions that were initially reserved for only men. In Liberia, the president is a woman and can lead other men. The composition of legislature houses composes of both men and women concluding the fact that people entrust the leadership of men and women in equal measure. (The Republic Book V).
The difference in body structure does not define quality or superiority. Equal chances should be offered to both men and women in consideration to their level of capability and not by gender. In the modern society, regarding business, education, and leadership, men and women have both made great strides of progress to greater heights. The movement of a car is not determined by the driver being man or woman but rather the ability to control.
