Energy-Nonrenewable,Renewable

Humans extract other non-renewable sources of energy such as minerals and metal ores since they exist within the earth’s crust. Their extraction is made possible by the natural geological processes such as weathering, heat. These processes occur due to many years of crustal recycling, tectonic subsidence and plate tectonics. The deposits of these metal ores can be extracted by humans for their economic gains within the human-time frames.Renewable forms of energy provide a cleaner alternative to the non-renewable sources of energy. The advantage of their use is that they do not pollute the air and that they can be used to reduce global warming. Other forms include the use of geothermal power, wind energy and hydroelectric power to generate alternative forms of energy. For example, the hydroelectric power provides about one-third of the world’s total energy supply. The geothermal energy production capability is 1.5 times the energy that is needed to drive the industrial processes and supply energy for domestic use by humans (Arthur 1512). These alternative forms, when harnessed, can substitute the non-renewable sources of energy that continue to pose serious environmental threats and jeopardize the essence of sustainable development. These recommendations seek to reduce the US dependency on oil. They are ten in number and include fuel efficiency through manufacturing of cars that are efficient in fuel consumption. The cars have better design that also helps to save lives. The second recommendation emphasizes on the use of electric cars to reduce dependency on oil. These cars can use domestic energy resources such as natural gas. The third recommendation focuses on removal of subsidies for oil companies. It emphasizes that removal of subsides would save billions of US dollars to cater for cheaper energy (Kanase-patil 1342). The fourth recommendation is encouraging the highly dense urban population in America to share cars or walk while going to work to reduce the resources spent on oil. The fifth recommendation encourages the use of public transit system to discourage the use of private cars for transport. This would help encourage many citizens to use available public transport while on transit. The sixth item is Employer Commute and Flexwork Programs. Employers have helped reduce car ownership by using website to encourage work from home.
