These are people who were born and raised in the desert or mountain wilderness and lived in tents or caves. They engaged in raising goats, sheep, donkeys, horses and camels. Bedouins consider the desert as their home, travelling in small bands or groups. Interestingly, the Bedouin are still living today as they have been living for thousands of years back, travelling from one oasis to another in their search for pasture and water. They use the resources in one area while the other gets replenished naturally on a kind of rotational basis. In their community, men and women occupy different status. Music, poetry and dance form major parts of their cultural heritage.The Middle East is a vital sea route, especially when it is regarded as a major route where the transportation of oil occurs. It occupies a position of strategic importance in the sense that its position is of vital importance to the world for economic reasons (even military). This is explained by the fact that, as the only passage to the ocean from many of the oil-producing states of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz is a vastly important strategic waterway. This is because passing through its waters are found huge sea tankers loaded full with oil from countries such as Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It is worth noting that the oil that flows through the Strait of Hormuz accounts roughly for 40% of the world’s sea-borne oil shipments, and 20%of all world shipments. Consequently, Egypt operates the Suez Canal which is a vital link to the Mediterranean Sea and the Red sea that creates a water route to the Indian Ocean. On the other hand Turkey controls the Bosporus and the Dardanelles straits that is also known as the Turkish straits, linking the Black Aegean Seas.The Middle East boosts of a variety of minerals that include salt, phosphate (used in fertilizers) and copper, in addition to vast resources of oil. This mineral resource presents tremendous opportunities of economic development and improvement in the general life of its population. Given that more and more countries the world over are reducing their dependence on fossil fuel, the wealth that oil producing countries formerly received from oil is bound to significantly reduce.
