Different company plants throughout the country, to work on an aircraft drawing as it develops from initial shapes to a final, dimensioned, explained, part. Traditionally, these drawings had always been prepared manually using drafting tables and conveyed between plants via company inter-office mail. By the introduction of early computerized drawing techniques and the accessibility of quality Interactive Computer Graphic (ICG) systems BCAC management decided to replace, both the manual drafting and inter-office mailing of aircraft design drawings. This was the beginning of the Computer Aided Design/Computer Assisted Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) (Feinberg, 1981).The design that uses new technology with care for improved performance and costs and without exposing undue program risks is of vital important. This needs ever-increasing confidence on advances in computational fluid dynamics for new aerodynamic designs of airframes and engines. Active controls and smart structures will be used to develop performance, reduce weight and increase fatigue life. With the purpose to reduce risks and uncertainties, technology campaigner programs will be widely used to prove advanced features in airframes and engines by showing expected gains are attainable and reasonable. The manufacturer must also adopt new business processes to shorten cycle times for design and manufacture, which reduce their cost and also give earlier access to market and increase sales. An integrated product development approach involving design-build teams, where engineering, manufacturing and procurement/finance work closely together to achieve the best design for cost and performance, seems most competent. The result is often a varied team with several multinational partners and suppliers. Tasks become widely dispersed, and this requires highly effective electronic communications for the exchange of up-to-date information, using product data interchange for technical definitions and electronic data interchange for forms, etc This also points to the need for well-suited three-dimensional computer automated design (3-D CAD) systems, and common data bases for design, manufacturing, procurement and finance.Multidisciplinary design and optimization explains an integrated set of computer programs that properly size and optimize the structural design of aircraft or engines to meet design necessities, while controlled by factors such as weight, cost, material properties and vibration or flutter
