However, they all react differently to their separate situations: Bobinôt worries over his son and wife, and his and his son’s appearance for when they begin to go home; Clarisse is unaware of what happens, only being told by a letter received from her husband; Alcée and Calixta find comfort in each other, though still worrying over the well-being of their spouses. In The Story of an Hour, the main character reacts to the situation differently than expected, given the fact that she has heart problems, and the characters in The Storm react indifferently to their problems.The end of The Story of an Hour ends with the death of Louise, who had died of joy and shock at the sight of her husband who had been announced dead, after having been in an accident. The ending of The Storm can be seen as “happily ever after,” with the right people not knowing the wrong thing - a secret that does not need to be revealed, lest things go out of control for the two different families. Despite the lack of knowing what went on, the letter Alcée wrote to his wife, while loving and full of concern and care, also gave off an air that suggested he was happy with their current situation. Oddly enough, his wife felt the same way. “As for Clarisse, she was charmed upon receiving her husbands letter. She and the babies were doing well. The society was agreeable; many of her old friends and acquaintances were at the bay. And the first free breath since her marriage seemed to restore the pleasant liberty of her maiden days. Devoted as she was to her husband, their intimate conjugal life was something which she was more than willing to forego for a while.” (The Storm) Though the stories were unknown, a happy lack of knowledge kept the families at peace. “So the storm passed and every one was happy.” (The Storm)The main characters of both of the short stories, being in different positions of knowing and not knowing what was taking place, were content in those positions - one character was aware and
