DTB clearly is convinced that there is already a demand for this type of service and that it can only grow as more people take advantage of the expansion of higher education. Hampering this conclusion is a lack of reliable, third-party research information into the demand for the specific type of service DTB wish to offer. In particular, they identify the need to stay in touch with businesses and consumers. This may translate into a portal which will enable Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Customer (B2C) access to the service.
They also identify a need to extend their reach to other complementary organisations, which might be affiliates or partners. They have been reluctant to offer anything other than a contact service over the internet because of a fear of intrusion and data compromise. They wish to offer a global service to English-speaking consumers but are compromised by the limited number of staff they have on hand. They are unable to undertake a more ambitious internet project due to the lack of in-house skills and awareness of how to utilise the technology to improve their online success. A key problem is reaching potential customers in the first place.
As a service organization with very few overheads, DTB does not have an obvious requirement to reduce their logistics costs. However, it is suggested that as they grow their freelance base, they will need to be able to administer their freelancers and perhaps offer accounting services to freelancers for taxation purposes etc. Certainly from their own point of view, keeping track of work done and payments received and sent will be important.The PEST analysis is a useful tool for understanding market growth or decline, and as such the position, potential and direction for a business.
