Baroque and Classicism. The expressed flow of movement could be viewed from the intricate folds of St. Teresa’s clothes, as well as that which was worn by the angel. Since the scenario seemed to depict that the angel had just allegedly pierced St. Teresa’s heart with a spear, the image of St. Teresa was in a suspended motion that apparently vividly shows her point of ecstacy. Therefore, the art work effectively represented baroque in terms of the effectiveness of the artist in capturing the intense passion on the face of his subject, St.The work of Nicolas Poussin, “Discovery of Achilles on Skyros” conforms to the definition of classicism through containing elements of both elegance and symmetry. As could be viewed from the painting, there are six images, one of which was identified to be Achilles, the Greek hero in the Trojan war.

The focal figures were appropriately strategically situated and eventually balanced by the two figures of men (merchants) on the left and one (Achilles) on the right. These images could be found in perfect symmetry where the two figures of ladies standing at the center could be interpreted as mirroring the two images of the merchants who were in kneeling position. Likewise, the central figure of another lady exactly mirrors the image of Achilles at the right side of the frame. The colors of the clothes are also symmetrical: the use of red and yellow for the central figure mirrored by Achilles; the blue and tan clothes of one merchant which is exactly symmetrical to one of the ladies’ clothes; and the other merchant’s pink shirt was likewise balanced to the pink blouse of the lady in front of him. The background elements (trees and skies) effectively provided balance and elegance to the overall painting.Another work of Bernini that effectively exemplifies baroque art is “Apollo and Daphe” (Galleria Borghese) which also exemplifies the basic features and characteristics of baroque through the movements of the figures; as well as the evident depiction of emotions as shown from the faces of the subjects. Likewise, the other work of Poussin, (The Metropolitan Museum of Art) also shows the features of classicism: symmetry and elegance in strategical locations of the images, objects, colors, as well as light and shadows. Overall, the works of art which were noted effectively. Baroque and Classicism.
